Teaching Statement

I am an evolving artist. I teach what I have learned from my professors and workshops which is to look around the outside world for the beginning of art. But more important to look inside as that is where the true creativity lies. I believe each person is born to be creative, we each make images in our own way when we are true to ourselves. My job is to support and encourage creativity. This is what I share with my students in classes and workshops. We learn from one another, enjoying the experience. Classes and workshops are held in two beautiful, exquisite, scenic parts of our country, the mountains of North Georgia and the beach communities in Florida.

ACYLICS - A NEW BEGINNING: Freeing oneself to enjoy the world of Acrylics is the purpose of this class. Students will explore color mixing and techniques in painting while having fun in a relaxed atmosphere. Paint from photos, the Masters and still life. "Plein Aire" as well as studio work. Students are encouraged to find their own artistic voice.

ABSTRACT - CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, JUST NOT REALISTIC!: Study landscapes, people, things and still life then convert to colors, shapes and sizes with an impressionistic influence. Enjoy painting with a pallet knife, abstract techniques using drawing and painting. Studio and outdoor locations. Designed to loosen up ones creative side! All levels.

LANDSCAPES - BEYOND THE BORDERS: Landscapes are all around full of life, color and rhythm. Paint them free and open, study what is really there but paint what the imagination sees using form, line, repetition and balance. Be free to explore! "Plein Aire" when possible. All levels.

PEOPLE - ALL SHAPES AND SIZES: People come in all shapes and sizes. Using a playful eye, let shape, color and creativity enter the painting! No drawing, just painting using photos or models and imagination. Lose the fear of painting people! All levels.
